Accreditations
ORCA is a voluntary, non-profit organization established in 1977 that sets professional operating standards, inspects and accredits retirement residences in Ontario. Since there are no provincial regulations governing the operations of retirement residences, there is a wide range in the quality of retirement residences in the province. Not all retirement residences are ORCA approved, only those like us that pass and continue to meet ORCA standards for accreditation.
ORCA began it’s accreditation system ten years ago. Trained surveyors conduct on-site inspections. Survey results are graded by an independent third party company. Depending on the award they receive, a home is re-surveyed in either one, two or three years. Homes that fail the survey and do not comply with a remedial action plan are expelled from the Association.
ORCA members must meet standards in many areas including:
- Quality of resident care
- Safety and security
- Emergency planning
- Building and property maintenance
- Recreation opportuniites
- Food and meal service
- Housekeeping and laundry
- Compliance with the Tenant Protection Act
By participating in ORCA’s accreditation, we demonstrate a commitment to quality and accountability to our staff, residents and the public. As an accredited member of ORCA, we are committed to the highest quality of care and service excellence. For further information, please visit http://www.orcaretirement.com/.
